Spotify has acquired Podz, a podcast discovery platform. It will help Spotify users to discover new podcasts on its platform. Earlier this week, Spotify announced Greenroom as its competitor for Clubhouse. This acquisition will provide people with a platform to search for new podcasts.
In an interview with TechCrunch, the company’s Chief Product Officer, Mike Herring said that this acquisition will help to create a more personalized podcasting experience.
“This acquisition will help to create a more personalized podcasting experience where people can listen to podcasts across different devices and in the background.”
As per report, Spotify was looking to create this platform for a while now. Initially, it acquired podcast provider Gimlet Media in May 2017 and it had some success with the platform. The service was rebranded as Spotify Podcasts.

As per the report, the new service will allow people to explore podcasts across different platforms and devices. As per a report, Podbean, the creator of Podz has around 4 million monthly active users. With the acquisition, it’s expected that Spotify will push this to more than 10 million users. The company has not disclosed the purchase price.
With the acquisition of Podz, Spotify will add an Android and iOS apps, as well as Android and iOS mobile apps. Spotify’s app on Android and iOS will be available in Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
