TikTok-Parent ByteDance Says It Will Downsize Fintech Business, Plans to Sell Stock Broker Operations

TikTok-Parent ByteDance Says It Will Downsize Fintech Business, Plans to Sell Stock Broker Operations

ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, said that it would shrink its financial services unit and that it planned to sell its stock broking operations amid China's tightening grip on the financial technology sector.

Bloomberg News reported that ByteDance is in talks with HSBC Holdings Plc's private equity arm and a private equity group to sell part of its Hong Kong-based stock market-making unit, which processes trades for the social-video app.

The moves follow a new regulation in China that mandates financial technology firms to register as financial institutions and a review by the central bank. ByteDance said that it is planning to sell its financial services unit as it looks to expand into mobile games and other non-social-video services.

The decision to shrink its financial services unit and the plans to sell its stock broking business also followed ByteDance founder and CEO Zhang Yiming's recent visit to Japan and South Korea to sign a partnership agreement with local tech giants.

ByteDance, which is already facing pressure from regulators in its home market, faced criticism over censorship after China banned its short-video app in the country. The app has become a hit with Chinese millennials and the country's largest video platform, TikTok, has amassed more than 300 million users.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Full Trailer Allegedly Leaked, Sony Pictures Issues Takedowns

Spider-Man: No Way Home Full Trailer Allegedly Leaked, Sony Pictures Issues Takedowns

Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer allegedly leaked onto TikTok early on Monday, with unfinished VFX and in terrible quality. Sony Pictures has been issuing take down left, right and centre. However, a new video is currently floating around the web. If it is, in fact, genuine, then it reveals much more about the film than what is shown in the trailer.

For example, it appears that Peter Parker is still alive after all. He seems to be seen as a very small child sitting on a couch and a dog runs into frame. He quickly grabs the dog and shoves the door of the house shut, apparently leaving the scene. If you look closely at the video, the dog looks like him. Could it be? It’s possible.

And if it is, then what on Earth is the deal with Mary Jane? Is she Peter’s new wife or daughter? If the former, then she looks like a teenager, while she appears to be about 30 years old in the trailer. What on Earth happened to the two of them? Whatever the deal is, it seems that we will get a better look in the film. Is she Peter’s new wife or daughter?

The video also seems to reveal that Parker travels back in time to stop a robbery at a train station. The robbery was originally scheduled to happen, so he was obviously sent back in time to prevent it. Does he then find himself stuck in time? That certainly seems to be the case.

One other thing the video shows is that the film apparently features the villain Hobgoblin. He looks to be the same Hobgoblin that we’ve seen previously. And here’s one final thing.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is out on July 28, so you will have to wait till then to find out more. The real question is, will there be some kind of big twist in the trailer? It’s possible. You just never know.

At least one new trailer will be coming soon, and that has been confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Speaking to CinemaBlend, Feige confirmed that the studio is “working hard to bring a trailer out before Thanksgiving.” You have to wonder what kind of marketing strategy they are using that will make the studio believe they can hold out till that time. Perhaps they are trying to get a large sum of money from Netflix to guarantee that they don’t miss the trailer. You never know, though.

When they started doing the Netflix films, Marvel made it a point to not show any of the character trailers until after the first one came out, which explains why so much information about the next series came out so late. With a trailer out, maybe more will be revealed. The next film is Black Widow, but after that, you will have to wait until after Infinity War comes out on May 4.

Tesla Crash Victim Lauded 'Full Self-Driving' in TikTok Videos

Tesla Crash Victim Lauded 'Full Self-Driving' in TikTok Videos

The Tesla owner, who died in a horrific crash of his Model 3, posted a video of himself riding in a vehicle without his hands on the wheels or legs. Tesla says both “autopilot” and “full self-driving” are not completely autonomous and that drivers need to pay attention.

“When I was in the vehicle, I was going at about 37 miles per hour,” he said. “It felt like it was accelerating at the normal rate. It seemed like a normal acceleration to me. It took some time to get used to the acceleration.”

He acknowledged he may be “jumping to conclusions” but said “the accelerations felt like they were normal to me”.

The company has insisted that autopilot doesn’t remove the need to pay attention and drivers must still monitor the vehicle.

A Tesla spokesperson said: “The driver must remain engaged at all times by paying attention to the road and remaining prepared to take action to avoid collisions. Autopilot only functions with the driver in the driver’s seat and the vehicle operating in ‘all-electric mode.’

“The driver must remain engaged and ready to take over at any time, so we encourage all drivers to keep their hands on the wheel while using Autopilot to minimize the risk of driver inattention or distraction.”

The autopilot in Tesla cars works by sending radar and camera data to an artificial intelligence system. The AI then automatically steers the car, slows down or speeds up the car as necessary, and makes a judgement about whether it should intervene.

The company says the system may not operate if the car is speeding, if the software detects the car is moving too slowly or if the driver’s hands leave the wheel.

Autopilot is also restricted by a set of rules which the company says “apply even when using Autopilot”.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash. The agency on Tuesday said it will not publish a preliminary report until it has completed its investigation.

A Tesla engineer told the board that the car was travelling at about 130km/h (80mph) as it entered the right turn and was being closely monitored by the driver, but was at a speed where it could have safely made the turn without alerting the driver.

The NTSB said the Tesla was one of two vehicles involved in the crash. A second vehicle, a Toyota Prius, had been travelling in the opposite direction, and was hit when the Tesla turned into the other lane.

The NTSB is investigating the incident in a field near the small town of Williston, South Carolina, near the Georgia state line, which it said may have been due to fatigue.

"We don't know what happened, and we have no way of reconstructing what happened in the seconds before the accident," David Walker, the chairman of the NTSB, told CNN.

TikTok Ban: Bill to Block Download of App on US Government Devices Passes Committee

TikTok Ban: Bill to Block Download of App on US Government Devices Passes Committee

The Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee unanimously passed a bill that would ban U.S. federal workers from downloading popular government tickets on U.S. government devices.

The bill, introduced by Virginia Republican James Lankford, calls on federal workers to be able to "opt out" from a Chinese-owned app to ensure the privacy of their data.

"We know that this new and fast-growing Chinese company [TickTock] has real cybersecurity concerns and it is not in the interest of the American people that it or any other foreign company be allowed unrestricted access to our data." Hill.

Known in China as Dowin, the app has gained popularity among young people around the world, allowing users to take a lip-syncing video of themselves in music. In the U.S., it was recently banned in Florida schools for fear of coronavirus, as it relates to a recent video containing the virus.

According to Lankford, the massive increase in ticks in the United States has given federal agencies "zero privacy protection" that could make them vulnerable to attacks.

TickTock users are often required to share their "favorite" music videos with the app's algorithm, which then recommends similar videos to the user. Because it is owned by the Chinese government, Lankford said TickTock has direct access to users' information and its business model makes them vulnerable to malicious activity.

The Senate bill, which has not yet been voted on, must be used to prevent all federal workers from being hacked with Department of Defense-certified encryption. And if they choose, they can "deselect" from the app.

TickTock has more than 50 million users in the United States, the majority of whom are under 25 years of age. Due to its popularity in demographics, security experts are urging parents to teach their children "knowledgeable Internet users."
