Google Discontinues Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5 Ahead of Pixel 6 Launch

Google Discontinues Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5 Ahead of Pixel 6 Launch

Google has killed off Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5A and Pixel 4A and Pixel 5 5G that were released on December 11 last year.

The reason for this, “we have removed these devices from the channel” according to a post on the Google Pixel Twitter feed.

“We will not be taking any new orders for the Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 5A, and Pixel 4A 5G after April 14. We will be making the Google Pixel 5 available only through our website and Google store, and the Google Pixel 4A 5G will not be available for in-store purchase.”

Google has not mentioned if these devices will still receive updates after the April 14 date. Pixel 4A was the budget version of Pixel 4 and came with last year’s model processor, which has been superceded by the Snapdragon 855.

Google has also confirmed that the new Pixel 6, which is expected to be released in October, will not be available for in-store purchase.

On a Reddit thread, user “nixu” said, “The Pixel 6 will not be available for in-store purchase.”

But they might make it available through the Google Store online as it has been reported that Google has already started taking orders for Google Pixel 6. If Google starts taking orders for Pixel 6 in the next week, they might make it available in-store or sell it online. But we don’t know if the launch date of the phone is in October or November this year.

The new Pixel will replace the Google Pixel 4 and 5, which were launched in 2018. Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 5A have received the Android Pie update and also, but the Pixel 4A and Pixel 4A 5G were not upgraded.

The Pixel 5 and Pixel 5A are getting the October 2019 security update and December 2019 security update, so there is a chance the Pixel 6 will receive the updates, but we don’t know if it will receive the September 2019 Android security patch update or not.

What’s new with Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6A

The Google Pixel 6 is expected to be released in the third quarter this year, and Google Pixel 6A is expected to be released in the fourth quarter.

According to the rumors, Google Pixel 6 will come with a dual-camera setup on the back, a pop-up selfie camera, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and it will be the first Pixel device with wireless charging.

The device is rumored to get the Snapdragon 855 processor, and also to be powered by 4,500 mAh battery with 30W fast charging support, and the price is expected to be $500.

It will be a good time to upgrade your phone, because there are many other smartphones in the market, including OnePlus 7, Vivo V19, Honor 7X, Moto G6, Asus Zenfone Max 2, and more. If you are new to Android or looking for a great phone, then you should go with the Pixel 6 or 6A.
